As a result of daily use under heavy loads in the machine, depending on the input material for the mill or shredder, the used knives can have strong wear and are therefore unusable. The process of so-called re-grinding or the knives provides redress. In order not to have to order a complete set of knives, the knives are designed in such way that the can be sharpened if necessary. The knives are then simply adjusted on the corresponding devices in the recycling mache and can be reused. In this process, the edge of the knife is ground, thus reduced in width to make it sharp again. This procedure can be repeated up to 10 times, depending on the width of the knife, before a new set of knives is due. It is recommended to have this operation performed by experienced professionals. On one side, because the number of regrinding operations of knives by special machines and relevant experience can be increased. This means while usually 5 regrinding operations of knives was intended, professionals may realize up to 10 operations. This saves unnecessary costs and increases efficiency. On the other side, the regrinding by untrained or inexperienced people is not without risks. By machines which are not correctly adjusted, bumps on the blade itself may arise which then impacts the result of the crushed product. The cutting gap may also vary in size, which in turn negatively affects the quality and the cutting behavior. Even cases of imbalance by the different weights of the individual knives are known in which the machine was seriously damaged. Therefore, the grinding of the knives should be carried out by professionals with appropriate experience to ensure good quality and probably also save costs.
